Overview

Friends Buddy Restaurant • 朋友咖啡店 is a humble yet authentic Chinese eatery located in the industrial vicinity of Taman Mount Austin, Johor Bahru. This spot caters to those who prioritize genuine flavors over fancy decor, offering a simple, no-frills environment that focuses squarely on the culinary experience. The atmosphere is invitingly homey, making it a comfortable choice for casual dining or a hearty breakfast.

The standout dishes here are the Ipoh-style chicken hor fun (鸡丝河粉) and the traditional wonton noodles. The hor fun is celebrated for its richly flavored, sweet broth that captures the essence of traditional Ipoh cuisine, providing a comforting depth that often eludes mass-produced counterparts. While some diners note the noodles aren’t silk-smooth but rather resemble the pre-dried variety, the fresh, succulent prawns and the fragrant shallot oil elevate the dish, creating a satisfying texture and aroma.

The wonton noodles continue this theme of authenticity, with fresh prawns and a broth that resonates with robust, deep flavors, although the seasoning can lean towards the salty side for some palates. The shredded chicken in the hor fun, while overall well-executed, occasionally feels a touch dry but does little to diminish the dish’s overall appeal.

Friends Buddy Restaurant primarily attracts those who seek authentic Malaysian Chinese hawker fare without the trappings of high-end dining. The friendly service and attentive hawkers enhance the experience, making each visit feel personal and welcoming. Complementing the food is their tea and coffee—praised for offering a creamy richness reminiscent of café standards but available at kopitiam prices—perfect for those who appreciate a good brew alongside their meal.

In essence, Friends Buddy Restaurant offers a genuine taste of Ipoh-style comfort food within a modest but cozy setting. It’s an ideal choice for local food enthusiasts and casual diners eager to explore well-loved Chinese Malaysian dishes that balance tradition, flavor, and value seamlessly.

Soup is robust though a tad salty. Hor fun is not as silky as I hoped. Seemed to be the pre-dried instead of fresh. 2 Medium sized prawns which were fresh and sweet Shallot oil is a highlight fragrant. The setting is very homey and conducive.

Be aware, this is a food court located in an industrial area. No frills. Simple place just for food and not ambiance. Had the Ipoh hor fun soup from the chicken rice stall. Soup was really good and authentic and the noodles typical of the Ipoh style. Prawns are fresh and crunchy. Only the shredded chicken felt a little dry. Overall a good dish to try.

The hawkers all are friendly and attentive, the foods are good and at reasonable price. The drinks are good and cheap, much cheaper than many coffeeshop. We visit them quite often for breakfast.

My favorite 鸡丝河粉 at the corner chicken rice stall . Very authentic taste with nice broth and reasonable prices . RM 8 for a bowl super value . Best in Jb and must try . Boss are friendly too . Their tea and coffee also above average for kopitiam standard . Thick and nice like cafe standard but kopitiam price. Highly recommended !

Well, this is a food court at Industrial park, you go in, you get your stomach filled, no fancy lighting, no aircond, but for food court, it served it purpose well. I almost always went for the Ayam Penyet (i ordered less rice), you can have fried rice version as well, good portion, reasonably priced.
